With stops at places referred to in my book, SHE THE PEOPLE, or related to people I discuss, this walking tour gives a sense of the layers of women’s history in Boston, from before 1776 to now.
This Special 4th of July Edition will begin as my book does, watching the Declaration of Independence read from the balcony of the Old State House — though we won’t tearing down any statues, of course.
Every year, the Captain Commanding of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts reads the Declaration of Independence from the balcony which is then followed by lots of cheering and music and confetti. You can read more about it here:
Traditional Reading of the Declaration of Independence and Parade
We’ll watch all of this fun stuff, and then head out on the tour, which is meant to start there anyway.
$30 per person
$45 with included signed copy of SHE THE PEOPLE
(if you bring your own copy, I’ll sign that, too. Of course.)
Because this will be a crowded day all over Boston, particularly at the event, the tour members are limited to 15.
The reading usually starts at 10 AM, in which case we’d meet up at the Sam Adams statue in front of Faneiul Hall at 9:30 AM. The events are being run through the Boston Harborfest and they have not posted official times for the event yet. I will keep participants posted.
